Human Milk Bank

The Human Milk Bank in the University Hospital encourages breastfeeding and collects, pasteurizes and distributes milk, prioritizing underweight and premature babies that cannot suckle, hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unity. Those are children that, for clinically proved reasons, cannot receive milk from their mother´s production.

The milk may be collected and stored in the donor's own house, in the University Hospital Milk Bank and at the collection points in Maringá and region. The donors are called on when they are under treatment at those unities or when their newborn children are being hospitalized. In 2020, 1,838 litters of breast milk were distributed.
