UEM has more than 10 researchers in the list of the world's most influential scientists

Data comes from an update of an article from PLOS Biology, as from a survey in the Scopus database

In 2020, the Media Relations Committee reported that eight PhD researchers from the State University of Maringá (Universidade Estadual de Maringá - UEM) featured among the world's most influential scientists. Now, in an update from a study published in the scientific journal PLOS Biology as from a survey in the Scopus database, the number of researchers linked to UEM mentioned globally rises to ten.

"The presence of researchers from UEM in this ranking shows that the internationalization process happening at university makes total sense, because our researchers are being recognized globally due to their productions", declares Luiz Fernando Cótica, Associate Provost for Research and Graduate Affairs at UEM.

The rise from eight to ten researchers shows that, according to Cótica, UEM has been moving forward during these two pandemic years, with higher intensity of work from some of its scientists that "published more with more quality”. According to the Associate Provost, other indicators attest the relevance of research at UEM, for instance the concession of new productivity grants.

There are 812 Brazilians with relevant scientific productions between the years of 1960 and 2020, according to PLOS Biology. In this distinct group are six professors from UEM (see table below): Angelo Antonio Agostinho, Celso Vataru Nakamura, Jesuí Vergílio Visentainer, Marcelo Moreira Cavalcanti, Marcos Luciano Bruschi, and Maurício Guimarães Araújo.

Still, according to the survey, there is another list, one about the scientific performance only of the year 2020. In it, there are 1132 Brazilians, including the six researchers mentioned previously and other three professors from UEM (see table below): Edvani Curti Muniz, Rosângela Bergamasco and Tania Ueda Nakamura as well as the chemist André Luiz Cazetta, a Bachelor degree holder  and Graduate at UEM.
