Master’s Program
The Philosophy Graduate Program (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Filosofia – PGF) aims to provide advanced academic education to prepare students for the practice of research at university level and for an academic career, as well as to qualify high school teachers and other professionals through philosophical investigation of the themes and theoretical problems related to the research fields of the Program. Supported by methods proven by the philosophical tradition, such as careful rational analysis, philosophy study and commentary, and through the practice of debates and seminars, the Program establishes itself as a field in which development achieved by the members of the program in their research is articulated. In principle, the approach of the faculty reflects the same formative proposal of the undergraduate course, that is, to cover the diversity of Philosophy as broadly as possible. In order to meet the demand for specialization in this important area of knowledge, the purpose of the Program is to develop philosophical education through research. We promote exchanges with other philosophy graduate programs throughout Brazil and abroad by encouraging, creating and maintaining research groups in several fields of philosophical knowledge. The purpose is to motivate the adoption of philosophical methods and results that contribute to meet the various challenges (metaphysical, rational, epistemic, ethical-political, aesthetic-cultural) with which the present days instigate humankind in its propensity to know and overcome the dilemmas that reality imposes on it.
