Master’s Program and Doctoral Program
The Graduate Program in Health Sciences (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Saúde - PCS) was founded in 2002, after approval by the Medical Assessment Committee II (CAPES - Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel). PCS was firstly created to serve the necessity for qualification for different healthcare professionals in the region, since there was only one program at the time.
The program qualifies professionals in the health area, since its beginning, to carry out teaching and research activities with quality and efficiency at local, regional and international levels. PCS’ students come from distinct areas, which facilitates the interaction and interdisciplinarity in the discussions and works developed. Various students are bound/tied to higher education institutions, either public or private, public agency of epidemiological, sanitary and public health vigilance, performing a relevant role in the education and progress of scientific knowledge in the field of infectious and parasitic diseases, as well as in the human health.
Currently, PCS has 19 associate professors (6 volunteers and 8 assistant professors) that teach in eight different research fields. Collaboratively with the students, the professors have been developing outreach activities outside the university, such as “Education for Prevention: science and community allied to control infectious diseases (Educação para prevenção: ciência e comunidade aliadas no controle de doenças infecciosas)”, which had already benefited about 1500 people in different cities; and disciplines integrated to the Open University to Senior Citizens (Universidade Aberta da Terceira Idade - UNATI), which offers the students new experiences with the public.
Until December, 2019, the Graduate Program in Health Sciences certified 358 graduate students with the Master’s degree and 67 with the Doctoral degree professionals at innumerous public and private institutions. Evaluated with score 5 by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior – CAPES), PSC receives financial resources (scholarships and projects funding) from CAPES, CNPq, and Fundação Araucária.
